Webdev Journey

How and why it started

Long story short: the internet sucks now.

It's fragmented and spread across so many platforms that only offer SOME of what you want. Forums are barely a thing anymore, accounts are required everywhere...

I wanted to have my own place online, that was made by me, that I had control over. The first solution I had was to make a Wordpress website, using plugins and pre-made templates and no required knowledge.

This worked well for a while (and still does to an extent), but I ended up wanting more. A way to make things exactly the way I wanted them to be and, most importantly, I wanted to actually understand what I was doing. Sure, being able to do things without needing to learn anything can be fun, but it becomes frustrating when there are limitation to what a plugin can provide.

And then...

AI and vibecoding became commonplace.

It pushed me towards wanting to understand the way things are made, WHY they work, and HOW to make them do what I want. I don't want to just ask the website to do things with the hope that the result turns out to be what I have in mind. I want to actually know what I need, and how to fix issues.
